Fall 2015 Class Descriptions

As you can see - we still have blank spots - that means you have the opportunity to tell us what you would like to teach - I have lots of ideas - but this isn't just my co-op - this is a community run Commonwealth!

Key of Liberty - Donna & Travis Whipple

The vision of the Key of Liberty course is to instill in our students a passion for and understanding of liberty, our country's founding and our sacred heritage. It is designed to engage the students with Early American history in a fun, intensive and exciting way.

Subjects this class works for: Speech (public speaking), Social Studies (Early American History and Government), and Writing.

Students will:
Write several papers
Present a 5(10-15) minute oral presentation on an assigned topic
Rewrite the Declaration of Independence in their own words
Take part in several Simulations
Read 8 books and take part in discussions

We need to have our students start reading "Red Scarf Girl" as soon as possible.(to be discussed during our first day.)

Apprentice Scholar
ages 15 - 18

Pyramid Project - Monica Verkaik & Nancy Georgeson

Pyramid Project focuses on math and science and accountability. We read several novels, write papers, inspire math education, and learn about the habits of a scientist. The students, with parents approval, pick their own math text book, and learn to set goals for their own learning. Expect to spend about 6 hours of week studying for this class, but that time includes math homework that you likely would be doing anyway.

Carry On, Mr Bowditch is the first novel we read, and should be read by the first day of class.
