Younger kids are welcome to play on the equipment, parents will take turns helping with the PE activities and watching the little kids. A schedule will be developed after registration. An Exciting Development - LEMI Training

I am so excited to report that I had the opportunity to attend LEMI Training this year with 6 amazing people. We had a wonderful experience, and learned so many things that are going to really enhance your families experience at Treasure Valley Commonwealth this year.

LEMI - Leadership Education Mentoring Institute

LEMI's mission is to build community and family through training parent mentors, leadership mentors and inspiring them to mentor your and adults through scholar phase.

Treasure Valley Commonwealth has chosen to use LEMI as a foundational aspect of accomplishing our mission, and therefore we also have embodied the principles of building community and family through our interactions with each other.

LEMI has developed a continuum of Scholar Projects that utilize project learning to enable students to become independent learners who are inspired to greatness. This year we have trained mentors in Shakespeare Conquest, Key of Liberty, Pyramid Project for the youth, and The Gathering Project for adults.

This is going to be a fabulous year - and we would like to share it with you!

Lego League

First Lego League is a international competition based on lego robotics, teamwork, research and innovation.

Teams of 10 students ranging in ages from 9-14 build and program a robot, do a research project, learn teamwork, and prepare a 5 minute presentation. the 8 - 10 week season culminates in a all day competition, with the possibility of going to a state tournament.

My husband and I have worked with other mentors the last 4 years to coach teams, and have gone to State 2 times. It has been a wonderful experience for us and for the team members.

Lego League has proven to be a amazing hands on holistic environment that fits in very well with homeschooling. Many different subject areas are tied together in a way that is exciting and relevant to the students. Being part of a team is inspiring, and although minimal work is usually required outside of the meetings there are many areas that you can study on your own that would benefit the team. We have had great successes with teams of multiple ages and genders, and we spend time learning about how a team needs lego builders, programmers, artists, graphic designers, researchers, and actors. There is a role for all types on the team and we strive to cross train as well.

Ages: 9 - 14

Time Involvement:
Participants:
2 - 4 hours a week, from 26 August - mid November. 4 - 8 hours a week from mid November til mid December.

Coaches: The more coaches that are involved 2 - 4 ideally, the better the time can be distributed evenly. It is very helpful to have a coach over the robot, and a coach over the research project/presentation. No previous experience in needed, there are materials to help the coach's and the kids learn really quickly in this exciting hands on environment.

Cost: $100 per student, includes T-shirt, which the kids design. This cost can be reduced by participation in fundraisers, or serving as a mentor.

Theme: Each year there is a different theme for the research project and the robotic competition and this years theme is World Class: Learning Unleashed
